Fuller House, When Calls the Heart alum Lori Loughlin facing new charges

Lori Loughlin

The college admissions scandal has gone on for long enough now that there are TV movies being made for it; yet, there are also still new headlines. Felicity Huffman is currently serving prison time over a plea deal, and the news today revolves more around Lori Loughlin and other wealthy parents accused of arranging deals for their children to attend prestigious schools.

Today, the When Calls the Heart and Fuller House alum was among 11 parents hit with a third indictment tied to the scandal, with the allegations (per The Wrap) being that they “conspired to commit federal program bribery by bribing employees of the University of Southern California (USC) to facilitate their children’s admission.” This comes courtesy of the Department of Justice, while another statement via US Attorney Andrew Welling leads as follows:

“Today’s charges are the result of ongoing investigation in the nationwide college admissions case … Our goal from the beginning has been to hold the defendants fully accountable for corrupting the college admissions process through cheating, bribery and fraud. The superseding indictments will further that effort.”

Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli have tired to claim innocence following the initial charges, and there have already been seismic consequences in terms of her career. Lori was fired previously from When Calls the Heart, with the Hallmark Channel series going so far as to re-cut footage from the most-recent season as to not include her. Meanwhile, there is no evidence that she will return to Fuller House as Aunt Becky, the character she first made famous on Full House many years ago. (She was not a regular on Fuller House, so there is no real reason to devote a lot of time to her absence.)

This story may have some more wrinkles to it yet, so CarterMatt is going to keep our eyes peeled for some additional updates every step of the way. For the time being, though, it feels like this will continue to be the subject of headlines. It’s also going to continue to have an impact on all of the kids involved here, as well — just look, for example, at some of what’s happened with Loughlin’s influencer daughter Olivia Jade. In addition to her no longer being enrolled at USC, she has lost a number of major endorsement deals.
