War of the Worlds trailer: See Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson’s new gig
Below, you can see the first trailer for The War of the Worlds, an upcoming adaptation of the H.G. Wells classic that looks to be staying fairly faithful as far as the time period goes. It’s a BBC production that will begin next month, and it also has some other ties to Poldark, as well. It shares the same production company in Mammoth Screen, who is also the house behind Victoria starring Jenna Coleman. (Clearly, these are folks who know a thing or two about crafting solid period dramas.)
The trailer that CarterMatt has for you below is all sorts of epic from start to finish, and it’s one that features a bizarre alien threat that no one knows how to contain. What’s so unique about this series already is that it seems to have both an alien-invasion and monster-movie component at the same time — it’s a story about a significant threat that no one knows quite how to stop, and watching the chaos go down over the next couple of months could prove entertaining.
Curious in some more news about the premiere episode and what to expect? Then check out the synopsis below via the folks at the BBC:
A mysterious capsule lands on Horsell Common; A terrifying menace inside the capsule is unleashed; Amy and George survive the slaughter, but the Martian invader takes its full form and unleashes further destruction.
While it’s too early to christen War of the Worlds an instant hit for the BBC (let alone all over the world), we do think that there are a LOT of reasons for excitement. Think in terms of the near-constant action, the fear, and the popularity of the source material. While there have been versions of the property before, including a big-budget feature film, few have worked to create an authentic story quite like the one that we are seeing here.
While the miniseries has been sold to a number of different countries already, there is still no word for a US home for War of the Worlds just yet. Once we’ve got that, we’ll have the news for you here.
