The Good Doctor star Freddie Highmore developing comedy for TBS
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Homesick “will explore mental health, body image, toxic masculinity and what it means to defy “normal” gender expectations. The show will chronicle the dysfunctional relationship between a twenty-something man who secretly suffers from an eating disorder and his mother, a narcissist and enabler — who also happens to be his best friend.” This is the sort of show that with the right talent involved, could prove to be a rather gigantic hit for the cable network. In the end, though, a lot of it is just going to depend on all of that aforementioned talent.

Ever since his days over on Bates Motel, it’s been clear that Freddie wants to be more than just an actor — he’s long dabbled in various forms of entertainment and it’s clear that he wants to make a name for himself as someone who can do a wide array of different things. That’s a big part of what makes him so exciting as a talent. This is also one of the reasons why The Good Doctor runs for 18 episodes, four less than the standard network TV drama; it allows him the opportunity to work on other projects during some of the off months.
Season 3 of The Good Doctor is going to premiere on ABC a little bit later this fall. There’s no firm premiere date on Homesick yet, mostly because this is a show obviously still in the early stages of development. It’s going to be a while before we know, one way or another, what its final status ends up being.
