The Affair season 5: Where is Joshua Jackson? Is Cole Lockhart dead?
At the time of The Affair and its first episode, it is assumed that Cole Lockhart is still alive and out there; unfortunately, you don’t see him. Meanwhile, once you get around to the future timeline, the older version of Joanie claims that she misses her father. Presumably, she is talking about Cole, though we also imagine it’s possible that there is another father figure that entered her life at some point.

So what should we make of the whereabouts of Cole? Trying to answer that is a delicate thing to do, largely because there is no clear answer to this question at the moment. We could imagine that this is a mystery that could play out as the final season is going to go along, mostly because this is the sort of thing that could be the metaphorical straw that stirs the drink.
We do think that it’s possible that you will see Joshua Jackson before the final season ends, but he’s not listed as a series regular. We don’t know if there is a happy ending in the cards for Cole, someone who has suffered and struggled and gone through so much insofar as painful scenarios go. We know that he has loved people, but a big part of a problem is that he hasn’t always known how to love himself — or do the right thing in the right moment.
In the end, we wonder about the guilt Cole feels over losing Allison. Is this going to be the sort of stuff that eventually eats this character alive? It is the sort of thing that it’s fair to wonder about. Cole may not be a perfect person, but he was entracing to watch. We’ll miss him with that in mind.
