Is GLOW renewed for season 4, canceled at Netflix? The latest
Is GLOW renewed for season 4 at Netflix, or should we expect the wrestling series to be entering its last match this weekend? Within this piece, CarterMatt comes bearing some more news all about the future of the show.
At the moment, we consider it uncertain — and it’s for a multitude of reasons. For starters, just Netflix itself. It’s becoming almost a punchline now how Netflix cancels most of their shows after three or four years. Just ask Daredevil, Santa Clarita Diet, or One Day at a Time what it feels like to end before you have more stories to tell and that’s without even mentioning The OA that just got cancelled on a major cliffhanger — at least with One Day at a Time it’s coming back on Pop TV.
Another component to the concern is the reports that came out last year that GLOW was nearly canceled at Netflix after a single year on the service. Why? Supposedly low ratings. Yet, the creative side of the company fought to keep the show around on the basis of its critical acclaim and the relationship that they had nurtured with one of its executive producers in Jenji Kohan from Orange is the New Black. That show is now at an end on Netflix, but it had a longer run than the majority of their hits.
Because of history, we can’t come into GLOW season 3 feeling confident that there will be a season 4, even though we think that there are more people on board the show now than there once was. We do think that it has built an audience, but is that going to be enough? We hope so, but more than that we also hope that someone over at Netflix is starting to get the memo that ending shows before they get a proper conclusion is not a way to build up viewer support. It’s a recipe for disaster since no one wants to get involved in a show to have it canceled without a proper end and in some cases on such a major cliffhanger where we are left feeling like we can’t trust the streaming service to deliver a complete story. It’s a major commitment to sit down and watch something for days on end, and it’s hard to continue to want to do that knowing that it’s not going to reach a conclusion.
