The Walking Dead season 10 spoilers: Who is Virgil? Meet new character

Who is Virgil on The Walking Dead season 10? He’s one of the new principal characters within the world of the show this time around, and he’s played by an excellent actor, as well — Kevin Carroll, who you may know from either The Leftovers or as the Sinnerman on Lucifer. Even though he’s coming on board late in the series’ run, we still think that he’ll make an impact.

So what do we know about this character, pictured above? The character description notes that he is a highly intelligent man, someone who is very skilled and able to take advantage of whatever is around him. He’s also desperate to make it home to his family, so he has a larger mission beyond just sticking around some of the central communities … unless his family is already there.

Virgil’s status within the TV world is a little bit of a mystery, given that this is not a name used for any major character in the Robert Kirkman comics. Yet, the show’s probably going to distance itself more and more from the source material now that the comics are done and the cast of characters is very much different. Many similar notes thematically may be touched on, but the characters at the center of them could prove to be very much different.

With Virgil, our excitement comes mostly from being a fan of Carroll’s past work and knowing that The Walking Dead does need some more significant characters within their world. That’s going to be one of the only ways for them to keep their audience within a post-Andrew Lincoln world — they can’t just be happy with some of the people that they have. Instead, they have to find a way to make the show more immersive and worth watching for the people that they have … and maybe also convince a few people who previously gave up to try and come back.
