Last Man Standing actress Kaitlyn Dever to star in FX anthology pilot

Last Man Standing

If you’ve enjoyed seeing Kaitlyn Dever in everything from Last Man Standing to the movie Booksmart, this is some news that could be up your alley.

According to a new report coming in via Deadline, Dever is one of many who was cast in Platform, an experimental half-hour pilot over at FX that is being written, directed, and executive-produced by The Office alum BJ Novak. The show is described as one that uses the “boldest issues of our times as a jumping off point to tell singular, character-driven stories about the world we live in today.” Joining Dever in the pilot are Lucas Hedges, Jon Bernthal, Boyd Holbrook, O’Shea Jackson Jr., George Wallace and Ed Asner. It’s a great group that is assembled here, and there are going to be two different episodes that will be technically filmed — with each having distinct differences in tone and also the way that they are made.

Dever can be seen next in the Netflix series Unbelievable and to us she feels like one of the biggest young stars on the rise these days. For those wondering what this new gig means potentially for her future on Last Man Standing, that depends. Anthology shows don’t often use the same cast from episode to episode, and even if they do, there may still be some holes in her schedule for her to appear on the Fox sitcom for season 8. It’s all going to be subject to her availability — Eve Baxter is always going to be a part of the show somehow, and it really is just a question of how much we’re able to see her.

The fact that Dever recurred last season, is a sign that there is a willingness for her to still appear if the situation allows. If she was disinterested or was simply unavailable, the show could have gone a similar route to Molly Ephraim and recasted her last summer. We haven’t heard anything suggesting that this will be the case here, so fingers crossed we do get another opportunity to see her coming up before too long.
