The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 episode 11 preview: Lawrence’s fate
Following this week’s episode “Bear Witness,” there are suspicions aplenty as to where Jane’s story could go from here. She’s become so intent and determined to get some of the children out, really by any means necessary. She’s not afraid to get information from Joseph or anyone else. This is one of the most dangerous perspectives that we’ve seen to date from the character, but every action and decision has consequences.
We know of the difficulties that Commander Lawrence finds himself in at the moment, and we also know of the love that he does have for Eleanor. He doesn’t want to see anything happen to her, and that is (in part) what causes their situation to be so emotionally challenged. Yet, what June chooses to do with Commander Lawrence courtesy of the ceremony pushes Eleanor to the brink, and in the promo below for next week’s “Liars,” you see Eleanor pointing a gun at Joseph while June looks on. Could this be the episode where something happens to the character?
If we’re reading between the lines, we would say that Bradley Whitford’s character is probably not long for this world, whether it be via Eleanor’s hand or someone else. Whitford has another show coming to NBC this fall, for starters; beyond that, he’s too much at the center of the eye of the storm now. We think that (for a lot of TV characters) you do reach that point of no return. You get to where it’s hard to see them existing in this same world anymore and this is where Commander Lawrence now is. Within this upcoming episode, we’ll get a good sense of what a possible endgame looks like … and also what the end result of it looks like for June. With us nearing the end of the season, tensions have to ratchet up further.
