There are problems for Ross across the board leading into the next all-new installment of the series. Take, for example, the oh-so-simple fact that the government is applying pressure on him to spy on his friend Ned Despard, and he finds himself conflicted with his government station on one side and his personal affections on the other. There’s also still the issue of chaos in Cornwall after someone tried to burn down Ross and Demelza’s home.
What is also worth noting about episode 3 is that this could be the one where George Warleggan takes a true turn for the worse. We have already seen this character suffer insanity and start to hallucinate that his late wife Elizabeth is there when she’s not; now, he could be starting to get combative to some of those around him who question whether or not he is altogether there mentally. He’s not going to appreciate this sort of interrogating and he may send himself down a point of no return.
Still, we admit that it’s rather fascinating to see a season of Poldark play out where Ross’ main villain is not necessarily George. The two may still be at odds with each other, but it’s clear that Ross has other fish to fry and George has more personal matters that he needs to attend to. If he doesn’t, there is a chance he will become undone in a way that cannot be repaired.
