Big Little Lies season 2 finale: Shailene Woodley unveils Perry spoiler

Has a big spoiler just come out about the Big Little Lies season 2 finale? On the surface, it does seem like that — and it’s a compelling one.

Speaking in a new interview from Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, Shailene Woodley (who plays Jane within the HBO series) passed along the following tease, claiming that she had permission from the network to reveal it:

In the beginning of the [episode], all the women go to visit Perry’s grave, and his body’s missing. So there you go. That’s the beginning of the next episode, so you still have an hour to figure out [what happened]…”

Has Big Little Lies suddenly become The Walking Dead? Is Perry Wright now well on his way to becoming Eric Northman from True Blood? It’s easy to have all sorts of crazy theories about what we saw on the show, but the reality may have something to do with some sort of further examination of his body. Is Mary Louise trying to do something to protest what reportedly happened to him? Another possibility is that she may want him buried somewhere else, but this is something else for Celeste and her to fight about — as if some of the stuff with the kids wasn’t enough.

This plot point does come as a surprise given that it’s not in any of the other promotional material that is out there for Big Little Lies at the moment — it’s not in the promo for the finale. It does still raise the stakes, and could also set the stage for some other big event … provided that Woodley is being serious in the first place. Given that this is a comedy show you never quite know, but the general consensus from much of the internet is to take what she said here as fact. If it’s an epic troll job, it’s one that is being played out rather convincingly.

Just remember this entering the Big Little Lies season 2 finale when it happens — there’s a good chance it is going to be the series finale. It’s hard to imagine a way in which we get confirmation about a season 3 beforehand with the performers’ busy schedules.
