Last Man Standing season 8: The writers are back at work!
This week, the big announcement is this — the writers are now back at work coming up with the latest batch of scripts for the new season! This news was confirmed thanks to a post on Twitter from new writer Jenny Yang (which we have for you to check out below), who actually consulted on the show on this past season. She’s got a full thread that is worth reading as she talks about how sitcoms first taught her English after moving to America. Getting to write for a sitcom (one that films in front of a live audience is a pretty fantastic full-circle feeling. Even though this is her first sitcom writing job, she’s been involved in other comedic ventures including Whitney and Key and Peele. She was also a staff writer on Busy Tonight.

A number of writers from Last Man Standing season 7 will be returning for the new season and we imagine that the objective for this upcoming season is fairly clear: Just build on what the show did this past time. We don’t think that Fox really needs to reinvent the wheel for a show like this; instead, the objective is just building on some of the momentum that you already have in telling stories that are both funny and also relatable. Last Man Standing is a family comedy in its purest form; it’s a story about people with different viewpoints coming together and realizing what matters most to them is their family connection. There will be hijinks and there will be missteps, but the Baxter family and beyond always finds a way to come back together. There is a purity in that, one that continues to make sitcoms a warm, comforting part of the television experience.
Here’s to hoping that Last Man Standing season 8 manages to reflect the world as it is today, while also finding a number of different ways to laugh in the process of it. It will premiere in early 2020 on a new night in Thursdays. (For more on the show’s return next year, be sure to visit the link here.)
