Black Ink Crew: Chicago season 5 episode 15 video: An unfortunate letter
What is mostly surprising about the conflict in the sneak peek below is exactly how it starts — with humor. This at first is more about a mysterious letter than Ryan got in the mail, one that leads to some of the crew guessing about what’s inside. He notes that he does occasionally get letters from prison … which leads to him telling all inmates out there to come to the shop once they get out.
Here’s the bad news: The letter is actually a notice of litigation over a cover-up tattoo that Van did a couple of years back, one that (via the photographic evidence) looks more like a black splotch of ink than any actual work. Ryan doesn’t know what to say after looking other than express some anger … which we don’t think that anyone would ever blame him for. He’s trying to build a stable company and no matter who does the tattoo, something that leads to an issue like this hurts the reputation of the whole shop. That’s what happens in this sort of industry — one bad tattoo reflects on every tattooer that is on staff. It’s frustrating and times pretty unfair, but tattooers have to adapt to the circumstances around them rather than just hope people start to think differently.
As a result of this letter, Ryan’s gotta figure out what he wants to do — and it’s going to lead to a conversation with Van first and foremost.
