Ben Trigger gets Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent … from himself

Who was Julianne Hough’s Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent? Tuesday night’s new episode was a chance to finally figure it out. Given that she is a new judge on the show this season, there’s a natural excitement and curiosity to learn who she would choose. She’s not predisposed to go with any one sort of acts; there’s a sense here of venturing into a great talent unknown and getting to see what’s on the other side. Ben Trigger is someone who was very intent on proving everyone wrong and get his dance career back on track. He was fighting to get the Golden Buzzer and succeed in the industry.

So what made this act special? Well, at first that was a little bit confusing. We weren’t entirely sure just where this act was going because it was so strange and comedic. It was unlike anything that we’ve seen on this show. We do think that he does have some actual dance technique — he did the splits and he moved about the stage in a way that showed that he knew what he was doing. We just don’t think that this was the sort of thing that anyone was expecting. A lot of time when someone takes off their clothes and moves around the stage, it’s pure comedy.

So did he actually get the Golden Buzzer? No. This was all a fake-out. There is no Golden Buzzer tonight and apparently, Ben pressing it for himself doesn’t actually count for a Golden Buzzer. This was tremendous on the part of the show, which clearly knows that there are a lot of people out there who were expecting there to be a real Golden Buzzer. He did still get four yes votes from the judges.

We suppose that really, we should just be happy that this was not what we thought that it was going into the show, as we were convinced that it would be. Then, we would have heard all sorts of criticism from people saying that Julianne made some sort of baffling decision. She would’ve put through a pure-camp dancer, someone who was fun but that’s about it. He’s not a Golden Buzzer talent, but he is absolutely entertaining.
