Shadowhunters season 3 episode 14 preview: ‘A Kiss from a Rose’

“A Kiss from a Rose” is more than just the title of a song by Seal — it’s also the title for Shadowhunters season 3 episode 14, which is airing on Freeform in one week’s time. This is an episode that’s going to give you some long-awaited romance for Clary and Jace, which they certainly deserve! We feel like after going through what those two have in between Jace being The Owl and Clary being captured, where was the time to be an actual couple and do things normal people do? This episode may actually offer a chance for that … amidst some other chaos. Given what Shadowhunters is it’s still hard to really envision an hour of just some relaxing couples-time with no threats that the world is about to cave in on itself.

Continuing to track down information on the rumors about misconduct at The Clave’s downworlder prison, Isabelle asks Alec for help. Meanwhile, Magnus succumbs to asking Lorenzo for a favor and Jace takes Clary on a special date.

Who’s down for a great sibling story! We haven’t really seen Izzy and Alec spend a whole lot of time together as of late, mostly because they’ve been working on other stuff in between Alec trying to help Magnus and Ozzy working with Simon to rid him of the Mark of Cain. This is a storyline where the two of them can take the lead, and also do it together. It matters within the world of Shadowhunters sure, but we can tell that just from the description below that there is a prescient sense of real-world value here. It doesn’t matter whether you are at prison, a school, or a corporate office — no one should be subject to mistreatment. Rumors have to be pursued to see if there is greater substance there.

As for Magnus, we feel for him since he’s going from being one of the most powerful warlocks in New York to not having powers and then having to speak with Lorenzo, who is now one of the most powerful warlocks in New York. It would be like a character in Game of Thrones losing the Iron Throne and then realizing that they needed to go to the new ruler for a favor. We feel like in the Game of Thrones world, that probably means ridicule and/or death … at least we don’t see anything like that happening to Harry Shum Jr.’s character here. There is an air of civility to the world of warlocks and witches … though there are certainly a fair share of cunning characters and devilish folks. There’s probably a part of Magnus that relishes not having to deal with certain ones as much anymore … though he is going to need a little bit of help here.
