Josephine Jobert leaving Death in Paradise, actress confirms
For the sake of the character, it did make a certain degree of sense. After all, Florence had just lost one of her great loves in Patrice, and given how small of a place Saint Marie is, it was hard for her to be able to get over anything while living there. She would just see and feel him at almost every turn and deal with the trauma. While arresting the person responsible for the crime in Frances offered a sense of justice, that doesn’t mean that she got closure. That’s something that will probably come over time … if really ever.
Jobert confirmed in a new post on Twitter (see below) that her exit is pretty definitive, at least for the time being. It’s always possible that she could come back at some point in the future, but for now, this is probably not something that you can 100% expect. You don’t want to get your hopes up for something since, for now, it doesn’t seem like a return is something that Florence is planning … at least a permanent one. She does claim that she is interested in stopping by for a visit at some point in the future.
In the end, we’re hoping that there are going to be some chances to see some cast stability elsewhere. We do realize that Death in Paradise is the sort of show that can handle cast changes, given that we’ve seen this so many times over the course of the show already. Still, we think that there’s a family atmosphere that is appealing to viewers out there — they like seeing a group of people working together, seeing how they can stop some of the strangest crimes that the island has to offer.
Remember now that new episodes of Death in Paradise are going to continue moving forward. Even though Florence is gone, there are still two more episodes that you’re going to get a chance to check out this season. We’ll see what some of the future holds on the other side of that, but we want to see this show stick around for as long as humanly possible.
