The Bachelor: Did Elyse Dehlbom leave Colton Underwood’s season; why?

Coming into this episode, we knew that there were a lot of discussions surrounding Elyse’s future on the show — those were amplified a little bit further when we actually saw the show. She was struggling to maintain the level of joy that she had on her one-on-one date, which does make sense when you think about some of what this competition does to your brain. Over time, it really does start to mess with you knowing that the man you are interested in and dating is dating other women and you have to actually be present for some of it in group dates and back at the house afterwards. This is just a process that takes a lot of patience and a lot of trust. Colton definitely does seem to be into her, but the problem is that he also has connections with other women too.
In the end, it boils down to this: Elyse wasn’t sure that she could accept a proposal from him at the end, knowing that she hasn’t had a chance to really get to know him in a real way. Basically, she eliminated herself because she was too much of a normal person for this crazy show and everything that it pertains. We’re going to miss her as a part of this show, and we do wonder, given the circumstances surrounding her exit, if this is going to be the sort of franchise she would want to be a part of again? Could she actually steer clear of Bachelor in Paradise down the road?
The big shame here is that we actually do think that the show lost one of its bigger contenders tonight — Elyse and Colton had some really great chemistry and now, some other contenders are going to have to rise to the forefront. We’ll have to wait and see precisely what happens over the rest of the season.
