Suits season 8 finale spoilers: How big is it going to be?

Suits season 8 returns to USA with new episodes this week and even though there are only six episodes remaining in this batch, these are going to be stuffed full of twists. You’re going to see a love triangle of sorts, new clients, and also returning characters like Sean Cahill, Dana Scott, and Daniel Hardman.

Unfortunately, there is still no word as to whether or not the finale this winter is going to be the series finale, but we definitely know that it’s going to be a big one. That’s something that show creator Aaron Korsh detailed recently to Deadline:

“Something major that happened very early in the first 10 (of Season 8) is going to come back and rear its head. All of those things are going to combine to me for an incredibly explosive last two episodes of Suits where stuff is going to happen that you will not see coming hopefully and that you will love.”

For those wondering, Korsh also confirmed that you will not see Patrick J. Adams as Mike Ross within the final six episodes of this season. There were discussions about doing something, but the general consensus here seems to be that there needs to be a substantial story reason to bring the character back so it means something. If there is a season 9, we do think that Adams could potentially return then if his schedule allows it — of course, it’s a completely different situation for Meghan Markle, as we never expect her to ever show up on the series again and that’s okay.

What is important for Korsh and the writers is that there are going to still be a few references here and there to some of the characters who are no longer around in the flesh. Just because Rachel and Mike aren’t on the show anymore, for example, does not mean other people have forgotten about them. They will still be mentioned — Rachel is Robert Zane’s daughter, and Mike is one of Harvey’s best friends. Maybe at some point off-screen Harvey’s going to take a trip to Seattle to bro down with his pal. (It’s too bad Seattle doesn’t have the SuperSonics anymore; we could totally envision Mike and Harvey hitting up a game together.)

Hopefully, we’ll get word on the future of Suits before we get around to the final episodes of this season.
