Grey’s Anatomy season 15: Ellen Pompeo on possible Sandra Oh return

In theory, a return by Sandra Oh to Grey’s Anatomy is always possible, and for good reason. We are talking about an iconic performer who played an iconic character in Dr. Cristina Yang, and for many years, she was a focal point at the heart of the series. The show hasn’t been quite the same without her — after all, Cristina was one of the most important people in Meredith’s life!

We do remain hopeful that Oh will come back to Grey’s Anatomy at some point before the end of the series’ run, but we’re also cognizant that it may not be anytime soon. After all, Sandra has been rather busy as of late, and if she didn’t appear on some other recent milestone episodes, it’s hard to envision a way to bring her back before a series finale. We think a cameo from her at that point would be great, but there’s no pressing need to do it beforehand.

Does Ellen Pompeo herself want to see Sandra back? Absolutely, but at the same time she recognizes that her former co-star is certainly successful off doing some other things. For some more thoughts on this subject, just take a look at what she had to say to TVLine:

“Selfishly I would love to see Sandra Oh come back to Grey’s … But I also love Killing Eve so much, and I love seeing her have so many of these incredible moments. So, as much as I love Sandra, I’d rather see her shine out on her own. I enjoy that more. That‘s more gratifying to me.”

Do we think that there’s some room in Oh’s schedule where she could do Killing Eve and an episode of Grey’s Anatomy down the road? Sure, but it would have to be the right situation at the right time. That’s definitely not something that could be rushed, and it would have to be the right story for just about everyone involved.

For now, Grey’s Anatomy does seem to have itself immersed in some other things. For example, you’ve got Meredith in the midst of a complicated situation with her love life, and Cristina’s ex Owen is now thinking about what he wants to do in regards to his future. Teddy is back and pregnant with his child; yet, at the same time he’s had a relationship with Amelia that means a considerable amount to him.
