Supergirl season 4 spoilers: Kidding actor cast as The Hat

Supergirl season 3 episode 13

We reported recently that Supergirl season 4 was in the process of casting The Hat, a character who (from the comics) is tied to Manchester Black and others. Now, we know for certain who is playing this part.

According to a report from ComicBook.com, Louis Ozawa Changchien of The Man in the High Castle and Kidding is going to be coming aboard to play the comic-book character in at least one episode, where he will be teaming up with Menagerie (who is going to be played by Major Crimes alum Jessica Meraz) and Manchester to take on both Supergirl and then also the Children of Liberty.

It shouldn’t exactly be a surprise at this point that Manchester and his crew would be adversaries of Supergirl. While they may share some ideals (after all, neither one of them want the Children of Liberty spreading hate in National City), their methods of bringing about change are very different. We already saw that Manchester had no problem trying to murder Agent Liberty, while Kara wanted to take care of things in a little more of a humane way. Regardless of whatever happens with Ben Lockwood behind bars, it nonetheless feels clear that this story is far from over at the moment. There’s still a good bit more to explore here.

…But how much more?

We have a hard time thinking that the Agent Liberty story in particular will last into the home stretch of season 4, at least in its current form without some other sort of twist added to the occasion. Think of things this way — there are still two other major storylines that have been discussed but not prominently featured on the show — the Red Daughter thread (which was first teased at the end of season 3, but only hinted at since) and then also seeing Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor. While it’s certainly possible that these stories are going to be linked to some of what’s going on right now, there’s no super-obvious sign that they are and we have to keep that in mind. The story of Supergirl is likely to press on past The Hat, Manchester Black, and others in some fairly substantial ways.
