For the time being, though, it feels as though you should not equate any of this with a possible cancellation. Speaking via Entertainment Tonight, pro dancer Sharna Burgess, who just won this past season of the series alongside Bobby Bones, made it clear that she does not expect the series to be going anywhere in the near future:
“This show is such a fan favorite. I mean, come on, it’s not going anywhere! We’re gonna do 30, 35, maybe 45 seasons! I’ll have babies and be married, retired by that point, but this is DWTS… it isn’t going anywhere.”
We do tend to believe Burgess at the moment; personally, we actually think that it will help Dancing with the Stars significantly to be in a position where they don’t have to air a new season of the show on an annual basis. That alleviates a little bit of the pressure that is put on it in order to constantly deliver ratings and beyond that, it helps in order to further ensure that there are plenty of viewers out there who miss the show when it’s not on. There is also a chance down the road that Dancing with the Stars could experiment further with the series — think in terms of potentially moving it to the summer of airing it on a different night. While the ratings are not anywhere close to what they once were, it does absolutely still feel as though there is a lot of life left in this franchise. We imagine that come this spring, we’ll be hearing about the show’s future once more.
