Last Man Standing season 7 episode 11 spoilers: Mike, Jen’s search for common ground

Last Man Standing season 7 episode 11 carries with it the title of “Common Ground,” and it will not take a whole lot of time to understand why. We are, after all, getting set to see a unique story about Mike and Jen working through some of their clear cultural differences while spending a great deal of time together.

Mike struggles to find common ground with Jen, the Baxter’s new foreign exchange student, fearing she is being too polite with him. When it comes to Mike’s behavior towards Jen, a good bit of it could be considered just a direct result of how some other people in his life behave around him. They are used to being close to him and with that, they know either what buttons to push or also how to get a reaction from him. They are not afraid to speak their mind. Meanwhile, with Jen you have someone who has grown up with a completely different set of norms and trying to flip the switch so that she’s more like other people in his life is impossible. This is going to take some time … or at least the span of a single episode. It’s gotta take at least enough time to drive the story of this particular half-hour.

As for the storyline with Ed’s ancestry, we don’t really think it’s all that hard to determine why this episode in particular could end up drawing a few laughs. It’s a chance for the writers to conjure up something that is a little more over-the-top and ridiculous, and in its own way, that could be a nice contrast to everything that you are getting a chance to see elsewhere with Mike and Jen. This is a show that wants to (obviously) make you laugh, but also find a number of different ways in which to do so. It wants to be able to constantly shake things up so that when you look back at the season, few episodes feel the exact same.

Last Man Standing will return with new episodes in 2019 starting on Friday, January 4.
