Let’s talk here about the CBS sneak peek, since it does encompass two of the things that we absolutely love the most about this series: The mixture of action and comedy. Through the past 199 episodes, one of the best things about this show has been watching Steve and Danny arguing with each other while they’re going about their business as cops and often a whole lot of that happens within car. The same thing can be said here. The only difference is that Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan aren’t playing the same exact characters; luckily, they are still cops doing their best to stop some bad guys. They’re just not particularly good at stopping them because apparently one of them (O’Loughlin) doesn’t drive steady enough and the other (Caan) isn’t a good enough shot. Add the outstanding musical score to the content of this preview and it seems like we’re in line for a crackerjack episode. It’s what most diehard Five-0 fans want, with an excellent and innovative twist!
For those who haven’t heard just yet, the Hawaii Five-0 200th episode is taking a deep-dive into the past to look both at the legacy of Steve’s own grandfather as well as Chang Apana, a legendary Hawaii detective who Peter M. Lenkov has been looking to honor on the series for some time. Many other series regulars will be featured in these flashbacks too! For the cast, this is a great opportunity to have some creative freedom (playing a new character) while also getting a chance to work with the same cast and crew you’re already familiar with. In that case, this is kind of a best-of-both-worlds sort of situation for an actor. You get to do something new with people you already know and love.
In flash-forwarding now to the present, this Hawaii Five-0 episode is also going to feature some sort of opening for Steve and Danny’s restaurant, so after you’re done seeing them argue in the past, they can do so in the present — while also hopefully having some meaningful moments where they reflect on just how far they’ve come as family to where something like this is even remotely possible for them. Being able to work together at two separate jobs really speaks to the strength of the relationship that they’ve been able to cultivate over time.
