Leading up to his departure on The Walking Dead next week, Andrew Lincoln is getting set to say goodbye to Rick Grimes. As a matter of fact, he’s finding a wide array of ways in which to do it.

Today, the big news is Lincoln actually saying farewell to the media in the form of a letter that he sent to publications for their coverage of the series. The Walking Dead may not be the ratings force that it once was years ago, but it is still one of cable’s biggest shows and it does have a rather enormous following. The media played a role in that from the get-go, at least in helping to stoke fan enthusiasm and bring everyone on board further something that became a phenomenon.

Take a look below at some of what Lincoln had to say in the really-gracious letter; remember that you can read a little bit more of it by heading over now to ComicBook.com:

By my own rough count, I’ve killed over 400 zombies during the apocalypse. Lost a horse, found a horse. Lost a girl… that didn’t go well. Ate a dog once. Wore a meat poncho twice. Escaped from a bunch of hipster cannibals. Not to mention I’ve been shot twice, baseball batted, stabbed three times, bit a man’s throat out (I’m sorry — that was weird — and tasted like chicken), and had my cowboy boots resoled… 12 times.

We began as an indie movie, and years later became a three-letter acronym (wtf?). And along the way, we’ve had the unique pleasure of meeting zombie enthusiasts all over our beautiful blue planet. From Tokyo to Trinidad, people have been united by their love of this story of survival… and Norman Reedus’ extraordinarily luscious hair.

Consider all of this yet another reminder that Lincoln is a class act with everything that he has done within the world of the series. He’s been great with fans and done whatever he can to lift the series forward for a good nine-plus years. His exit has everything to with his family; it doesn’t have anything to do with the series itself.
