Why is Michaela McManus leaving SEAL Team, Alana Hayes character?
As it turns out, the reason for McManus’ exit is not controversial in the slightest. After all, it mostly has to do with her joining another series in The Village, where she is a series regular moving forward. (Expect to see this show launch at midseason.) Because of her status on this series, it’s hard for her to jump over and also play Alana here. Meanwhile, it’s also hard for SEAL Team to only occasionally use a character who is this important to the overall story. These shows are on two different networks and with two different filming locations; these are difficult logistical hurdles to get around.

Basically, McManus is leaving because she got an excellent opportunity, and for the folks over at SEAL Team, they are using this as an opportunity to try to move forward and establish some compelling story for Jason. Losing Alana is a game-changing, watershed moment in his life. It’s something that will cause him to think anew about the decisions that he’s made when it comes to the team and his life when he is at home.
Losing this character good material for David Boreanaz, and that is likely why the series made the decision that they did here. It allows the series to tell meaningful story while also cultivating a death for Alana that would not change the character. What happened to her wasn’t her fault, and there wasn’t anything that she could be blamed for. Jason’s memories of her, with that, get to remain the same. That is important for this series as the story continues on, both in this episode and beyond. Hopefully, she won’t be forgotten about along the way.
