The Walking Dead season 9 episode 2 ratings sink further
Last week, the show started off with a still-respectable 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which was a surprisingly weak start to what has been billed as Andrew Lincoln’s final run. Yet, this past episode ended up generating a 2.0 rating, a surprisingly-low outing that spells some more trouble coming up for the franchise in the future. If this number if bad, just imagine what the ratings are going to be on the series once Lincoln leaves.

One of the things that we do wonder at the moment is if so many of us were thinking about things the wrong way with this show. Is the departure of Andrew Lincoln the nail in the coffin for the series, or was it the departure of Chandler Riggs last season? That seemed to be one of the big ratings turning points for the show.
We do still want to point out here that it is not all doom-and-gloom for the AMC series, largely due to the fact that a 2.0 rating is still exceptional for a scripted television program in 2018. Yet, it’s definitely time for an adjustment in the narrative to what The Walking Dead is as a series. This is no longer a monster runaway hit for AMC. Instead, it’s now a show that performs to solid ratings, but not necessarily one that is going to stand out beyond that. If the ratings can stay around here, it could have a future for many years to come … but that really depends on whether or not the network wants that and, beyond that, whether or not the cast wants to keep going amidst so many departures.
