Ink Master season 11 episode 8 review: Landscapes lead to surprising elimination

Ink Master

It’s hard to believe but we are roughly around the midway point already for Ink Master season 11! That’s what happens when you have a season as good as this one is – it just blows by. The Cleen Rock One and Christian Buckingham team twist has been incredibly entertaining, but outside of that we have some really great artists this season that are easy to root for. Normally with this show there is a clear winner from pretty much the start – this year not so much (although we are leaning towards Tiffer at this point). Who’s going home this week? Let’s see what’s in store.

Flash challenge

With Cleen’s team losing artists two weeks in a row he really needs the win this week and that of course starts with a flash challenge. This week the teams are working with chalk to create an image that shows dimension. We have seen a lot of flash challenges using strange elements like tacks or tape but this is chalk – so basically they are using something that they draw with and that’s something that everyone should be able to excel at.

Cleen’s team did an incredible job, that spider looked like it was climbing right out of that hole! Christian’s team did a good job with their lava pit, but for us that spider was the easy winner – and the judges agreed.

Elimination tattoo

Dimension is still the name of the game for the elimination tattoo and the artists have to show they understand dimension with nature-scapes. Cleen’s team has the advantage and they decide to target Angel, Teej, and Tim. Angel Rose has been getting a pretty serious edit tonight and with that we are immediately worried for her! We saw Cleen’s team looking to target her as they think they can shake her spirit and we saw her during the flash challenge rubbing some people the wrong way. They know that she’s getting frazzled and they want to help stabilize her but the elimination tattoo she’s saddled with might just be her undoing – color tattoos are not her specialty and with her limited experience she’s pretty worried. Can Christian coach her enough to get her through this?

CarterMatt Verdict

There was no surprise that Tiffer got tattoo of the day with that beautiful mountain-scape and he’s become the front runner for us as the winner of this season. Angel, Amanda and Jimmy ended up in the bottom with Cleen’s team sending Angel down there stating that she didn’t have an actual nature-scape and didn’t hit the challenge. Angel got a rough edit tonight and we were pretty worried about her not hitting the challenge requirements since we have seen the judges send people home often for this exactly thing. Was Angel able to make it through this? It wasn’t unanimous, but Angel went home tonight – much like the edit was dictating since the episode kicked off.
