Outcast canceled at Cinemax; season 3 not happening at premium cable network
The cancellation news first came out this evening courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, and it is also coming less than a week after the show wrapped up its run on the network. The live ratings were not good for Outcast, which was an international co-production and came with a rather-hefty price tag.
The reason that we are so frustrated with the cancellation is that Cinemax waited for a really long time in order to premiere the second season, even after it first premiered overseas. With that in mind, we definitely do wonder what could have been in the event that the network premiered it earlier and it had a better chance to succeed. It did face a lot of limitations given that this was a premium-cable series that could only feasibly air in some many places while still having great content. Yet, at the same time we have a hard time imagining that there were zero other possible suitors for the show out there.
At this point, the best thing that we can really hope for is that there could be another possible place for some of these cast members to call home. As for Outcast season 3 succeeding on another network, we have a hard time imagining that it sill find someone interested. With the ratings being what they were for the second season, it is rather hard to fathom anyone chomping at the bit in order to pick the show up. We just wish that it had a little more of an additional chance.
