The Good Doctor season 2 spoilers: Freddie Highmore on changes for Shaun
So what does Freddie Highmore have to say himself about his journey this season? The series star made an appearance this past week on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and while there he did his best in order to describe the precise story that you’re going to have a chance to see:
“I think the journey that he’ll go on this season is wonderful too because, of course, he will always have autism but he’s changing constantly.
“I think this first episode we see a little bit more of his sense of humor, he’s getting a little bit more confident, and opening up to people … it’s great to play a character who does change and who does evolve.”

Personally, we know that many of Shaun’s struggles, both good and bad, are going to come courtesy of his personal life and his relationship with Lea, who is heading back to town. Given his feelings for her, this is a real chance to see how he has worked to better understand how to communicate.
Professionally, he is going to have to ramp up his social skills now that Dr. Andrews has a little more of a prominent role in hospital leadership. He is going to challenge Shaun in ways that we haven’t seen before, and the character will be on a short leash.
In case you weren’t excited enough about The Good Doctor season 2, just remember that Highmore himself is writing the premiere episode!
