While there’s been talk for a long time now that the fifth season would be the final one for the series, there is something quite definite about seeing it written as such on the official Masterpiece account below. There is also a happy photo of the Poldark family via the show’s official Twitter — Eleanor Tomlinson and Aidan Turner are back, and everyone seems to be happy!
Moving into season 5, we do think that one of the big challenges is certainly going to be trying to see if there is a way to preserve some of that happiness in the long-term given everything that has happened. There are characters who could be reeling from tragedy in season 4, and also have to contend with the ever-changing world around them. We hesitate to say too much more than that given the obvious spoilers for those who haven’t seen season 4 just yet, but we do think that we’re in for a pretty epic run of episodes moving forward. This is going to be an opportunity to assess the real future of Ross and Demelza, one where they are real movers-and-shakers in Cornwall and beyond. They can be heroes, but they are also humans who deserve some element of stability and peace back at home.
Be prepared to see filming for Poldark season 5 continue over the next few months; we do certainly wonder if there could be more of the series years down the road, but for now, it feels right to approach the next batch of episodes as the end of the road. It’s better be prepared for it now…
