Code Black actor Luis Guzman joins Shameless season 9; revival hopes dim
Via a report from Deadline, Guzman is going to be recurring through Shameless in the role of Mikey, a boozehound who has a lot in common with Frank. As a matter of fact, the two do battle in order to be the face of an alcoholic beverage that is being marketed to college kids. This sounds like a particularly-hilarious role, and what we do appreciate about it is that it’s probably going to feel rather different than any other one that we’ve seen from him.
We should say this, though — given that this role is recurring and Shameless is already deep into filming, we have a hard time thinking that this would interfere with Code Black were it to return … but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen. Just a few days ago, creator Michael Seitzman certianly didn’t make it seem like there was hope for more Code Black in the future, saying that it was “true” that the season 3 finale would serve as the end of the series. Consider this yet another reminder that this has to be one of the saddest and most-unfair cancellations that we’ve seen in a rather long time. Code Black deserved better, and at this point, the biggest thing that we can really hope for is that many of the cast members get an opportunity to move on to do some awesome stuff. If nothing else, we hope that the series exposed some viewers to great talent and people who they may not have had a chance to see before.
Shameless is currently airing new episodes on Sunday nights.
