Supergirl season 4 promo offers up first look at Nicole Maines

Supergirl season 3 episode 13

The first Supergirl season 4 promo has been officially unearthed via The CW, and we do think that it does a rather-great job of signaling what to expect.

For starters, how about some new characters? This promo gives you a first look at Nicole Maines as Nia Nal, a reporter who will eventually go on to be the hero Dreamer. (Yet, we don’t think that producers are going to be altogether eager to rush her down that path right away.)

Beyond just this, this promo also shows Rhona Mitra as Mercy Graves, a new adversary who will be playing a major role coming up. The same goes as Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty, a man who forms a crusade-of-sorts in order to take out characters who are not from earth. He is going to be one of the biggest adversaries Kara and company face this season, and his story really echoes the themes of identity and self-discovery that we’re going to see many people go on. This is a season meant to reflect some of the themes and stories that are present in the real world.

There are, of course, still many other questions … including the costumed figure with the House of El insignia. Is this the Red Son inspired version of Kara, someone deliberately out to cause chaos, or a different person altogether? Come October, we’ll have a chance to find out.

More so than anything, we do think that the purpose of this particular Supergirl trailer is to remind viewers out there that the show is going to be coming on the air on Sunday nights. This is an ambitious move for The CW, a network not necessarily known for airing big shows on that night. This is a gamble, but potentially a lucrative one.
