2018 Emmys: Will Jason Bateman, Sterling K. Brown, someone else win Drama Actor?
The 2018 Primetime Emmys are airing on NBC come Monday, September 17, and we’re starting to take a look ahead at the categories! We want to do our best here to not only analyze the field, but also figure out just what shows will and should emerge as the champion.
For this particular article, we’re putting the focus on Actor in a Drama Series! While there are many fantastic nominees in this field, we do think that there is one favorite who is going to stand up from the pack. We think that the Emmys will lean towards him giving him the gold, but with this you can never be too sure.
At the end of this article, there is a poll for who you think should take home the trophy — after we get through our own analysis, of course.
Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! We’ll announce all reader predictions at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time on September 17, leading up to the start of the awards.
The nominees
Jason Bateman, Ozark
Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us
Ed Harris, Westworld
Matthew Rhys, The Americans
Milo Ventimiglia, This Is Us
Jeffrey Wright, Westworld
Who should win
Of this group, we do think that there are cases to be made for many different people — but, we’re going to go with Ventimiglia for bringing so much heart, but also so much pain, to Jack Pearson. With the circumstances around Jack’s death in mind this is probably going to be his best season, and given that he is the patriarch of the entire family and also the crux of much of the story, he sets the tone for the story. Without him, This Is Us would not be anywhere close to the story that it is.
Beyond Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown or Matthew Rhys, in his last year of eligibility for The Americans, are also each outstanding choices.
Who will win
We do think the average Emmy voter is sadly forgetting about The Americans already, especially since it had a small audience to begin with. Brown has been cleaning house in this category for a while and with season 2 being another outstanding year for his character of Randall, it’s hard to envision a situation in which this changes.
