America’s Got Talent rankings: Michael Ketterer, Zurcaroh, Shin Lim in control
Below, we have our full assessment of the 11 acts performing Tuesday based on quality to date and also the voting history we’ve seen too far — we’re trying to take our own personal reference out of this. If you want to see some more of our thoughts in video form, watch below and subscribe for more updates. You can also check out our playlist for more.
11. Front Pictures – Love the act, but if they didn’t get through last time it’s hard to imagine that they are going to this time — it never really goes all that well for wild-card acts in the semifinals.
10. Junior New System – Very fun act, but how much more do they have than what we’ve seen to date? While we’re thrilled that they’re still around, this is probably their ceiling on this particular competition.
9. Samuel J. Comroe – He’s an interesting variable to throw into this show. If a number of other acts Tuesday are super-serious, he may have a shot. Yet, comedians can be polarizing and he doesn’t have a character that is necessarily easily-digestible by mainstream America. Personally, we think he’s ridiculously funny.
8. Voices of Hope – You can never rule out the American public’s ability to vote through a children’s choir. We do think that they have some talent, but personally we didn’t feel like their most-recent performance was necessarily outstanding.
7. Makayla Phillips – While she needed the Dunkin’ Save to advance last time, how much of that was due to her performing at the start of her show and being forgotten about? We think a lot; if she performs later Tuesday, there’s a chance she gets a good many more votes.
6. Duo Transcend – Personally, we’d have them probably behind only Shin and Zurcaroh as our favorites in this heap. Yet, we have to remember that there is an uneven voting history for this sort of aerialist acts on this show. If it’s between them and Us the Duo at the end of the results, maybe they have a chance.
5. Us the Duo – Great performers with a great story and an established fan base. While we do wonder if their last performance was their peak, there’s no reason to think that another great song could be around the corner for them.
4. Amanda Mena – We feel pretty good about her chances, even with there being a ton of competition from similar singers in this lineup. It just feels like at least a couple of the young singers will make the finale — we’re banking on her and Courtney Hadwin.
3. Shin Lim – He and Aaron Crow are the only acts left who fit within the magic category, but clearly they’re two very different sort of artists. With Shin, you’ve got a close-up specialist who is a wizard at everything he does. America tends to love magicians, so we’re incredibly optimistic about his chances.
2. Zurcaroh – One of the coolest acrobatic / dance acts that we’ve ever seen. You can argue that there may almost be too much going on, but we think live it plays really well. The only argument against them is that it may not translate as well to TV as other acts.
1. Michael Ketterer – After that Simon Cowell – crying moment, it’s really hard to imagine him anywhere else. He’s a great singer, but beyond that he has a story that really transcends the hearts of most America’s Got Talent viewers. He’s a threat to win at this point.
