Mr. Robot season 4 could be final season, says Christian Slater
Speaking in a recent interview with Collider, series star Christian Slater made it clear that there is a reason why the show may choose to wind down sooner rather than later, as opposed to keeping things going just for the sake of attention:
“[Show creator] Sam [Esmail] always said it was going to be somewhere in that zone, and he didn’t want to go further than what he could creatively contribute to that storyline … So, I think that Season 4 will be it. I think they’re in the writers’ room, as we speak, putting it all together, but I have no idea what it’s gonna be, or if I’m gonna be floating in and out of scenes. I have no idea, so we’ll see what happens.”
It’s going to be a long wait until season 4 airs, given that if they are just writing it now, odds are we’re looking at a launch around the middle of next year. While we’d of course love more than four seasons to explore these characters’ psyches, at the same time there is something to be said for getting out while you still are doing something creatively satisfying … and also something that is beloved by a good many fans out there. You can leave them wanting more as opposed to overstaying your welcome. (Of course, “leaving people wanting more” in 2018 often means people wanting a revival, but we have a really hard time seeing that with this sort of show.)
