Anne with an E renewed for season 3 by Netflix, CBC
There is no longer a reason to worry — Anne with an E will be coming back for a third season on Netflix and CBC!
We consider this renewal announcement to be the most surprising of the day, at least so far, for many different reasons. For starters, the second season has not even premiered on CBC in Canada just yet, and because of that, it was hard to imagine that anyone was going to be hurrying things along when it comes to a renewal.
In a statement, here is what CBC’s own General Manager of Programming Sally Catto had to say:
“We are thrilled to be able to announce a third season of Anne with an E before season two premieres in Canada … Anne with an E delivered a rich first season, drawing in both new and existing fans to the world of Avonlea. We have no doubt that Canadians will continue to fall in love with this beautiful and heartwarming series for seasons to come.”
Meanwhile, Netflix’s own Vice-President of Original Content Cindy Holland said the following:
“Through the storytelling of Anne with an E, the classic Canadian tale has transcended borders and found fans across our global membership … We are excited to continue our partnership with CBC and Northwood and bring the series back for a third season.”
Per showrunner Moira Walley-Beckett, the third season is going to feature a 16-year old Anne who is dealing with both “romantic complications” but also important discoveries. This is a show that is meant to celebrate and honor its source material, but also tell a story that contemporary audiences are also going to have a chance to appreciate. We shall see moving into season 3 whether or not that truly is the case, but we do certainly have some reasons for confidence right now. They’ve earned it through the first two batches of episodes.
