Blue Bloods season 9: Should Bebe Neuwirth make multiple appearances?
When it comes to what series star Tom Selleck wants, we know that he is happy to have Neuwirth back into the mix. Kelly was one of the best recurring characters earlier on in the series, and she also felt like one of the few people who had a real romantic connection with Frank. At the start of season 8, we’re not sure that she was someone who was really on the series’ radar at all — after all, she was on Madam Secretary and, as a result of that, wasn’t exactly available.
Now that Neuwirth is not a part of Madam Secretary, though, there are chances to use her more. We saw that through the second half of Blue Bloods season 8 and, moving forward, there are certainly more opportunities to see her.
For starters, there are fewer conflicts of interest that could keep Frank from being involved romantically with Kelly in the future. Even if that doesn’t happen, the two can still forge an incredibly-strong friendship. Kelly is someone who knows Frank and understands him. While she does have her own professional interests, she does bring a perspective that is different from how Frank thinks. Most importantly, he trusts her. He doesn’t have many close confidants outside of his family and professional advisers. Peterson is valuable for that.
If Blue Bloods does ever decide to go in a romantic direction with Kelly, it goes without saying that there is a lot of potential there. We don’t get to see older characters in new romantic relationships on TV all that often, and there is a lot of ground to be explored there. We know that Blue Bloods isn’t an explicitly romantic show, though, so anything that happens or is explored will probably be a little more subtle than it is overt.
Blue Bloods season 9 will officially premiere on CBS this fall. We’ll have more news/discussion soon, so stay tuned!
