Vikings star Katheryn Winnick celebrates makeup team’s Emmy nod

What does Vikings have in common with Outlander? For starters, both shows have been long overlooked at the Emmys in terms of acting nominations; yet, they’ve been able to find a little bit of love somewhere else.

For Vikings in particular, last week it was confirmed that the History drama was nominated in the category of Outstanding Makeup for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic). The show is in some tremendous company, as it is competing against the likes of Westworld, This Is Us, Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, and GLOW. When you look at this list, you can make a pretty easy case for all of them to be nominated in some shape or form. Makeup is a very challenging field since it requires so much precision and specificity. you need to make all of the characters feel appropriate both for the time period and for television, and at times, that can be a rather-delicate balancing act. These shows nominated are the ones who excel the most at pulling things off.

Below, you can see the reaction of series star Katheryn Winnick to the news, as she praises the team for all of their commitment to making everyone look as great as possible. Hopefully, this nomination can bring a little bit of exposure to what is otherwise a smaller series. We’d love to see it get as good of ratings as humanly possible and one of the only ways to do that is by leveraging promotion at just about every turn. We’d love for Vikings / Winnick in particular to get some additional Emmy love, but we’re glad to at least see the series nominated in some form.
