Is Steven Krueger leaving The Originals before series finale?
Of course, here is the biggest irony that we’ve got at the moment when it comes Josh’s arc — Krueger was just made a series regular for the final season, only to be killed off on the other side a few episodes away from the finale. Did his death serve a purpose? Sure, but many deaths do. The question that you’re always left to wonder in these situations is whether or not there was another way.
Josh’s death also seems to prove another theory here potentially true: Somehow, most of the likable characters seem to be killed off on these shows before the series finale. Was Josh too pure? Hard to say, but he was one of the series’ best characters and he’s gone on the same season that we’ve also lost Hayley. (Of course, given that this is The Originals, you have to think that it’s possible Josh somehow finds his way back. Matters of life and death are not always the easiest thing to understand when it comes to this series. A good example of that Is Vincent, at least temporarily, getting another moment with Ivy. It just couldn’t last for him and his farewell was another reminder of how Yasuf Gatewood is one of the show’s great treasures.)
Speaking of other shocking moves, who else thought that Hope was going to be able to unleash so much power? She basically did her equivalent of taking down countless men and women using just her voice.
Ultimately, The Originals season 5 episode 10 did a good job of setting up everything that is coming up next … but it also did make us sad at the same time. Marcel toasting Josh near the end of the episode is a good example of that.
Did Josh find peace?
One thing that was nice was getting to see a little bit of closure in the closing minutes for Josh, as he arrived in peace, saw Aiden, and kissed him. He gets a chance for some happiness after death, something that we saw on The Vampire Diaries at the end of its run, as well.
Of course, we recognize that there is so much more story still to tell on The Originals, with Klaus still finding his family in danger. That’s especially true for Hope, judging from that moment in the end.
