Criminal Minds season 14 spotlight: What should be next for Garcia?
For starters, we should kick things off here by noting that our assumption is that the character will make it through to the second episode of the season and that she is not being killed off — mostly because the thought of that is incredibly depressing and really not something that we want to think about. Beyond that, there are no signs that Kirsten Vangsness is leaving – that being said this situation is going to be a difficult one for her to get out of.
So, with her survival in mind, what could come after that? We come bearing a few suggestions.
1. Getting a chance to see her more out in the field – We say that knowing full well where she is entering the premiere, but we still like getting a chance to see Garcia doing different things rather than being behind her computer. Situations where she can both get into the field and also communicate with some like-minded people could also be fun.
2. Some positive news with her life outside of the BAU – We know that Garcia has been through a lot of tough stuff in her life, so it would be nice if there was a chance for her story to move forward in some way — personally, we’d like to see her get a love interest (like Luke Alvez since we are Garvez shippers) or someone else she can bond with away from work. That expands her world, and we like to think entering season 14 that it’s the right time in order to see something new for her life.
3. A continuous arc – We do like it when Criminal Minds spends a good bit of time focusing on one character, and we do think that season 14 is a chance to get Garcia in the spotlight more than ever. She’s one of the longest-tenured cast members on the show and Vangsness deserves the chance to really dive into something meaty where we can see a wide array of emotions for her.
