Last Man Standing season 7: Molly Ephraim, Kaitlyn Dever’s future unclear
As previously reported, the majority of the main cast, including of course Tim Allen and Nancy Travis, was locked in to return. Now, we can also say (via TVLine) that Hector Elizondo is officially also locked in as a series regular. For those who love the partnership between Mike and Ed, that’s clearly going to continue.
Yet, there are still some other questions when it comes to Molly Ephraim and Kaitlyn Dever, who played Mike and Vanessa’s daughters Mandy and Eve, respectively. Both actors are in talks to potentially recur on the new season, which means that we could see them for a percentage of the season, but likely not all of it. Given that Eve in particular went off to train for the Air Force at the end of season 6, that makes some sense story-wise that she wouldn’t be around all that much since there’s a pretty dedicated amount of work that goes into that program. Given that more than a year as passed in between seasons, it’s certainly feasible to also write in a wide array of reasons as to why certain people may not be around anywhere near as much as they once were.
Meanwhile, there is currently no deal in place for Flynn Morrison to return as Boyd. We’ll see what happens on that front moving forward.
In the end, one of the biggest challenges that does come with reviving a series a year removed from its previous end is that getting so many familiar faces back is often a challenge. Actors cannot just sit around and hope that someone picks up the show, and with so many of the actors on Last Man Standing being young, there are more opportunities to move on to do other things.
Last Man Standing season 7 will premiere on Fox Fridays this fall. We’ll have some additional news on the subject when it comes in.
