Vida season 2 renewal: Will it happen at Starz following season 1 finale?
There’s certainly a reason to be hopeful that a Vida season 2 renewal could happen, at least when it comes to the story of the show. It takes on an element of Latinx culture that isn’t anywhere else on television, and it has creative voices behind the scenes that only further amplify it. It’s a unique, genre-blending show with memorable characters and moments that could generate good discussion.
Unfortunately, it’s also a show that could face a difficult climb towards getting a season 2 renewal. If you look at the live+same-day ratings estimates, Vida through the first five episodes is one of the lowest-rated series on all of Starz, as it is currently averaging just over 120,000 viewers. Does that number increase when you add in streaming data and DVR viewership? Absolutely, but the question remains still by how much. Typically, shows that are one of the lowest-rated on their particular network face a tough battle in finding a way to come back for another go of things.
With that said, there are still some reasons to be a little more hopeful when it comes to a series like Vida, namely in that you’ve got a series here that has the potential to grow a lot from one year to the next. In a perfect world, we would have it so that network executives have to give a series at least an opportunity to air for two years before making a decision on the future. That would incentivize viewers to give a show a chance, given that there is a tangible fear among many out there to watch a new show thinking that it is just going to be canceled down the line. This would also give a show like Vida a chance to see if it blows up at some point down the line. We’ve certainly seen many low-rated series in the past find a way to secure a greater audience for themselves over time, whether it be via awards season or just viewer recommendations.
