CBS could end up snagging Mad About You revival
The long-discussed Mad About You revival could eventually find a home for itself over at CBS, and in the process of that join another much-discussed revival in Murphy Brown.
Speaking per TVLine, the network’s executive vice president Thom Sherman confirmed that there have been some discussions about picking up the property, which is as of right now a property of Sony Pictures TV. Original series stars Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt have both agreed to be a part of the revival, which is going to be set many years following the original series. The idea for the new series is that Paul and Jamie are trying to come to grass but the fact that their daughter is applying to college. With that in mind, this is almost a snapshot of a very different part in these characters’ lives as almost empty-nesters.
Does the world really need another edition of Mad About You? Probably not, but we don’t exactly blame Sony or the series’ stars for wanting to go with this now. We are living in a time in which nostalgia is running rampant, and there is a real desire to see some of these characters and settings back on her television. Much of the revival trend as of late has been brought up in part because of the success of Will & Grace over on NBC. Not only has that show been renewed for next season, but also an additional series beyond that. Beyond just that, the success of the Roseanne revival that is causing everything to spiral further and we wouldn’t be shocked if even more shows end up being brought back from the dead. At least in this case, Mad About You for many years was one of the funniest sitcoms out there. It’s going to be interesting to see how it adjust to a new television landscape, if it really can at all.
At the moment though one thing to remember is simply this: it does not appear as though Mad About You will be a part of CBS’ upcoming schedule in the near future. It’s not listed as one of their fall series, and unless they pick it up for midseason, we could be waiting until the fall of 2019 in order to actually see the show in action.
