Last Man Standing season 7 seemingly ordered by Fox
Is a Last Man Standing season 7 heading to Fox? While it may not be official as of yet, there’s a pretty strong indicator out there now that news of this move may be coming… and soon!
Thanks to a discovery by the fine folks over at SpoilerTV, it appears as though the network has set up a page for the Tim Allen comedy on its website. That’s a pretty clear indicator that the revival could be happening, but then again, so was Fox deciding to send Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Man on Earth, and The Mick to the TV graveyard. This show being picked up amidst some of these other shows’ cancellations is not going to go over well, but the cold reality of the television industry is that while fans of these shows want to see them continue on forever this is a business and networks will head where the money is. The ratings for these shows weren’t close to what the ratings for Last Man Standing were back when ABC canceled it, and there is a strong financial incentive for Fox to pick the show up given that the series comes from their studio.
There’s really one practical question to ask in the aftermath of this news and it is simply this: Why didn’t Last Man Standing get a revival from Fox last year? Most of the same incentives that are here now were around then, so what was the hold up? We mostly just think the Roseanne factor is playing a big role here. Last Man Standing (like Roseanne), has a strong conservative base, and it killed in the ratings on ABC with little to no attention. We’re curious to see what it could end up doing for a network like Fox if they find it a stronger timeslot and a good airing companion.
CarterMatt figures that the official pickup announcement for Last Man Standing is going to come over the next few days, so stay tuned. Remember, upfronts are next week and that is not a whole lot of time for networks to get their ducks in a row.
