Supergirl season 3 episode 18 preview: Could Reign kill Ruby?
After all, at the core of this episode is Reign trying to do something that she previously warned Samantha Arias about on the show — taking her away from her daughter Ruby. That’s yet another way to emotionally break Sam beyond the point of no return and it makes sense that this is something that Reign would want. It would take away her will to fight and, beyond that, it could also emotionally devastate others to such an extent that they may struggle to keep their head in the game.

REIGN SETS HER SIGHTS ON RUBY – When Reign (Odette Annable) starts hunting Ruby (guest star Emma Tremblay), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) work together to keep her safe. Supergirl and J’onn (David Harewood) look to Sam’s mother (guest star Betty Buckley) for advice on how to stop Reign and come away with some shocking news. Antonio Negret directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner and teleplay by Lindsay Gelfand & Allison Weintraub (#318). Original airdate 5/14/2018.
Bringing back Buckley at this point makes some sense given that she knows a little bit more about Sam’s history than almost anyone and with that, she’s at least a small glimmer of hope. This is still not going to be an easy situation for the entire team just because of everything that Reign has done to date — and also the fact that there are still so many episodes to go this season. There’s a reasonably good chance that things are going to get worse long before they ever get better.
