Outlander season 4: Four performers primed for breakout year

Outlander season 4

Who could end up being thought of as a major star after Outlander season 4? That’s always going to be a matter of opinion, but for the sake of this feature, we thought it would be interesting to spotlight in particular a series of performers who look very much likely to shine alongside Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. Three of them have been a part of the show before, whereas one is someone totally new to the series.

At the end of the season, maybe we’ll revisit this list and discuss more whether or not these storylines and screen time were worthy of some of the hype. (For now, we’re fairly optimistic.)

Sophie Skelton – This is, bar none, the biggest season for Skelton as Brianna yet. For starters, you’re not going to just see her in the first handful of episodes. She’s already won the Breakout Star award at the CarterMatt Awards, but we think that this is the year she could start to get a little bit more attention elsewhere.

Richard Rankin – You can’t include Bree without Roger, right? We’ve always loved Rankin and the commitment and quiet power he brings to his roles. We expect Roger to go through a wide range of emotions this season and for him to wear his heart on his sleeve, while also finding an inner hero within himself that he didn’t know was there.

John Bell – Much like Jamie at the end of season 1, there’s an interesting opportunity here to tell the story of a young man coping with trauma. How does he come back from that, and does what happened with his capture and the Bakra change him forever? The depth of the Young Ian character could lead to so much wonderful material for Bell moving forward.

Ed Speleers – While he may be new to the show, we do certainly think that Speleers will make a splash as Stephen Bonnet. He’s not going to be a character to root for, but for every great hero you need an equally compelling villain. Bonnet is that, and he also is a very different sort of foe from who we’ve seen on Outlander in the past.
