Empire season 4 midseason premiere: Is Demi Moore leaving?
Technically, we presume that there is a chance for Moore to return as Claudia, mostly because of the fact that the character didn’t actually die. Instead, what we ended up seeing here was the character arrested in the midst of her obsessive stand-off over Lucious Lyon. This is what happens sometimes when obsession takes over. She’s gone now and at least in this sense, the family can start to breathe a little bit easier … though it is going to take some time in order for Lucious to find a little more peace.
As for whether or not it was always the end goal in order to have Claudia’s story end this way, here is what co-executive producer / episode director Craig Brewer had to say to TVLine:
“It was a variation [of the ending we envisioned]. It was always going to get to a point of obsession.”
Now, the assumption is over and some of the characters get a chance to have a little bit of relief … or at least what some of these characters can have. We’re excited now moving into the future to see what sort of guest star Empire can bring in to match the buzz that Moore brought. She was not your typical recurring guest star and this is some of the things that Empire really excels at — finding unique people. We don’t think that there needs to be more of the same with this show by any means, but at the same time it would strongly benefit Empire if there were some different characters cast who aren’t the typical music-industry types.
