The Fosters season 5 episode 17 preview: Callie considers public service

The Fosters season 5 episode 17 is going to be airing on Freeform in one week’s time. What’s coming up over the course of the hour? At the center of this installment is going to be Callie in the midst of a potential change in her future.

For most of the past couple of years, we’ve seen Maia Mitchell’s character doing just about everything that she can in order to become an artist; yet, she’s now confronting the possibility that this is actually not what she is meant to do at all. Instead, she is starting to look more towards a future in public service, one spawned in part by what she’s done with Ximena and others. She’s definitely young now, but we absolutely do think that she would be an excellent attorney or politician down the line. President Callie? Who knows what the future is going to hold for her.

Below, the Fosters season 5 episode 17 synopsis offers up some additional insight in terms of what is coming up next:

Callie speaks on a panel about Ximena’s struggle and realizes she may have a passion for something other than art. Meanwhile, Mariana is torn between two suitors.

The story with Callie is the more interesting of the two for us, mostly because of the simple fact that this is something that could shape her entire future — and possibly where she could end up when it comes to the upcoming spin-off show featuring Mitchell alongside Cierra Ramirez. The Mariana storyline has been akin to The Bachelorette for the past couple of episodes; while it is fun, at the same exact time how much is it really going to matter? Mariana may not be with either one of these people by the time that the spin-off rolls around and it may not matter all that much because of that.

This episode of The Fosters is the penultimate installment of the season depending on how you look at it — there is one more episode on the other side of this, but it’s a two-hour installment that celebrates a significant milestone for the series. On the other side of this finale there are a string of just a few episodes this summer to tie together the series once and for all.
