Should there be Once Upon a Time spin-off after series finale?
It’s already easy to think about what some possible scenarios for spin-offs are. Think in terms of some of the characters we’ve met — a journey through Regina’s future could be fun, just as it would be nice to see more of characters like Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood no matter the universe, and more. We could probably do an article series for weeks just talking about what some of the possible spin-offs could be.
For the time being, though, it’s probably best to not get your hopes up too much about such a thing coming, largely because the ratings for season 7 are what they are. The reason we’re not getting more of the show is likely tied in one way to the performance — given that only a percentage of a show’s current fan base tends to check out a spin-off, the odds are not particular high that the ratings for a new show would be even to what they are for Once Upon a Time now.

A more likely scenario is this — at some point down the road, ABC decides to develop some sort of live-action variation of a popular Disney movie, one that they can put on the air and we can act as though it’s set within the same universe. Whether it be The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, or many of the other stories that are out there, we could see there being an interest in developing out those — though even with that, it’s also possible that Disney may choose to bring those ideas to its own standalone streaming service. That’s not launching for a little while, but it definitely seems like the House of Mouse is already starting to develop out what some of their properties are going to be there.
