In this article, the focus is on Paras Atashnak, a future law student living in Vancouver who has been watching the show for the better part of a decade.
Will that long-time love of Big Brother translate into a win? Take a look at the pre-game interview below.
CarterMatt – Tell me about yourself — your name, your age, and where you’re from.
I’m Paras, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Vancouver.
What do you do for a living?
I’m currently a student. I’m starting law school in September and I just finished my undergrad. I’m just in a transition period. I was going to take a job as a legal assistant until I was told that I was coming on the show. So I’m probably either a student or unemployed, whatever you want to call it (laughs).
What made you want to be on Big Brother Canada this season?
I’ve been watching the show since I was 10. Like a lot of super-fans out there I’ve always wondered what I would do in each scenario and how I would play the game. As soon as I knew about Big Brother Canada I knew that I had to audition. I remember when there was only Big Brother US, I remember being fourteen and being like ‘how can I get a US visa to go play?’. That’s how obsessed I’ve been with the show. When the opportunity came up I [had] to apply.
I’ve wanted to apply since I was 19, but I knew I had to wait until my undergrad was done so that my parents would be okay with it.
What’s your strategy for winning this season?
I think that I’m going to pair up with the HoH. The people who win a lot in the first half of the game, the jocks and the stronger guys, I think I can get along with them pretty well — but, I do want to play the game with the outsiders. You know how there’s typically a powershift that happens in the season where the underdogs get in power? I think at that point I want to have a foundation laid with the outsiders so I can jump ship.
I also think I’ll do really well with the mental comps so I can win out and win the game!
Who are you most like from past Big Brother seasons, US or Canada?
Can I do a combination? I would say from US, a combination of Janelle, Vanessa Rousso, and Danielle Reyes. From Canada I would say a mix of Neda and Kevin.
What’s the one part of your life at home you’re going to miss the most in the game?
Definitely my family. We’re very close — my mom, my dad, my brother, and my cat. We’re always hanging out. That’s definitely going to be the hardest part.
Who is your biggest idol in life and why?
Probably my mom.
How are you going to keep live feed viewers at home entertained?
You’re going to have to wait and watch! I’m crazy. That’s the same way I am at home and that’s the same way I am with my friends. I’m pretty hyper and I have a lot of energy. I don’t sit around and nap.
Also, I’m such a big fan that I always wonder why, when it’s boring, nobody is talking to the camera and nobody is giving updates. I’m going to be talking to [feeders]. I’m going to give them updates on my strategy and what’s going on. I recognize that live feeds are a big part of the game.
Besides the money, what are you hoping to get out of this season?
I want the title! I don’t even really care about the money. I want to be the next Big Brother Canada winner.
First Impressions
While we’re never a huge fan of the whole showmance-as-strategy part of the equation, no doubt we’re looking at someone here who could end up being a real contender. Not only does she understand the game from a strategic standpoint, but she also understands what fans want and that should aid her in any potential twists.
