Big Brother Canada 6 pre-game interview: Meet Merron Haile, part of this season’s twist

Welcome to our Big Brother Canada 6 pre-game interview series! We recently had a chance to speak with the houseguests leading up to the start of this new season, premiering on Global on March 7, as we’ve done years in the past. The goal this year was to find out a little bit about these players strategically, but also a little more about them as people. We want to know why they’re going to be interesting personalities to watch over the coming months and where they are coming from.

In this article, the focus is on a fan of the show named Merron Haile, someone who is excited to be in the game as a relatively-recent fan even though he hasn’t really thought too much out what he wants to do in the game itself. He is one of the contestants this season who will have to wait and see if he gets into the house due to Canada’s vote. From now until March 8 you can vote over at the show’s official site to see who you want to make it into the game. There are two “angels” and two “devils” in the mix, and Merron is identified as one of the angels. Two houseguests will end up joining the remaining players this season.

CarterMatt – Tell me about yourself — your name, your age, and where you’re from.

Merron Haile – I’m Merron, I’m 22, and I’m from Edmonton, Alberta.

What do you do for a living?

I am a student — a full-time student. I’m a marketing major in my second year.

What made you want to be on Big Brother Canada this season?

I’m just a huge fan of the show — I’ve been watching for a couple of years. I decided that I wanted to audition and see how well I would do.

What’s your strategy for winning this season?

I don’t have one. I’m just going to wing it, have fun, and not try to stress over it. I’m just going to let the game come to me. I’ll just do whatever and see what happens.

Who are you most like from past Big Brother seasons, US or Canada?

None. I honestly can’t think of any. I’m just being real here. There’s nobody that I can relate to at all.

What’s the one part of your life at home you’re going to miss the most in the game?

I’ll say my family — I live with my family, so it’s going to be hard to be away from them for this amount of time. I’ll survive, but that’s definitely going to be the hardest part.

Who is your biggest idol in life and why?

That’s a great question. I never really thought about this, but the first person that comes to mind is Barack Obama. He’s a legend.

How are you going to keep live feed viewers at home entertained?

Just do what I do. I sing a lot to myself, I talk to myself a lot, and I’ll do whatever I can to make it a fun environment in that house. I think me trying to entertain myself and the other houseguests to kill time will be good enough.

Besides the money, what are you hoping to get out of this season?

I want to be the first black winner in Big Brother Canada history and the first black winner in Big Brother history.

First Impressions

There’s just enough quirky awkwardness within these answers that gives us a sense that we could have a possible contender on our hands. One thing we noticed a couple of different times within his tone was almost a subtle need for approval — that’s something that can be useful in the game if you harness it probably. It makes others feel as though they are important and valued within your eyes.
